OSAKA – April 16: A strategic USD 20 million agreement signed between Pertama Ferroalloys Sdn Bhd and the Export – Import Bank of Malaysia Berhad (EXIM Bank) is poised to pave the way for the development of Sarawak’s first production facilities for Electrolytic Manganese Metal (EMM) and High Purity Manganese Sulphate (HPMnS) – key materials in the renewable energy and electric vehicle (EV) sectors. According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) news report, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed at the Malaysian Pavillion during the OSAKA EXPO 2025 in Japan, marks a major step forward in Sarawak’s push to position itself as a hub for green industrial materials. Tokyo, Dec 17 – Pertama Ferroalloys has significant potential to contribute to renewable energy solutions, particularly in solar battery storage, leveraging Japan’s advanced technologies to support Sarawak’s industrial and sustainable development goals. Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg emphasised this during a meeting in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday (Dec 16), where the Sarawak Government, Pertama Ferroalloys, and Japan’s Ministry of Trade, Economy, and Industry (METI) convened to strengthen bilateral cooperation in natural resource development and economic growth. According to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Pertama Ferroalloys unveiled its Green- Triple Nine Manganese initiative as part of its Phase Two operations. “This initiative focuses on producing Electrolytic Manganese Metal (EMM) and High Purity Manganese Sulphate (HPMnS), globally recognized as critical mineral resources. These high-purity products, containing 99.9 percent manganese, are essential for advanced steelmaking and electric vehicle battery production,” the company stated
