Balancing academia and industry for her impactful research

Emira, a 30-year-old Business Development Engineer of the QHSSE Department at Pertama, is a self-taught Japanese speaker who has achieved an extraordinary milestone securing the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship of the School of Engineering’s Division of Hokkaido University, Japan.

Her outstanding achievement has been a first and a point of pride for Pertama Ferroalloys and was honored a special award by General Manager Mr. Yuki Nakamura himself in celebrating her remarkable success.

Having an interest that lies in repurposing Silico Manganese (SiMn) slag as a foundational material for civil application at Pertama, this study aligns seamlessly with her doctorate course.

She attributes her preparedness for her Ph.D endeavour to her experiences at Pertama, noting that her work has provided her with a deep understanding of the physical and chemical properties of SiMn slag.

Moving forward, she aspires to engage in research collaborations with experts from ferroalloy and steel manufacturers or government bodies, aiming to contribute significantly to the academic community.

Astounded by her accomplishment and her efforts in learning the Japanese language, Mr. Nakamura presented her with a letter written in Japanese, expressing deep appreciation and congratulations for her endeavours in Japan, starting March.

In a message to the staff at Pertama, she thanked the company for providing her the necessary assistance that she needs throughout her tenure.
