In July 2023, Pertama FerroAlloys Sdn Bhd announced a significant RM1.5 million sponsorship to the Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) over five years, aimed at fostering local talent and supporting sports development in the region. This partnership has been instrumental in providing opportunities for Sarawak’s young athletes, particularly female shuttlers, to gain international exposure.

A key milestone came in November 2025, when Pertama’s support enabled a seven-player squad of Sarawak female badminton youth, aged 12 to 22, to embark on a new adventure by competing in the prestigious All Japan Badminton Diamond Cup in Aomori, Japan. Although the team did not secure medals against Japan’s top juniors, the experience was invaluable, offering critical international exposure and skill-building opportunities that motivated the players for future challenges.

Building on this foundation, Sarawak’s young talents recently achieved a historic runners-up finish in the PETRONAS National Under-21 Championships 2026, showcasing their growth and determination. This success has propelled two standout players, Genevie Lim from Kuching and Wafa Shahmina from Miri, to be nominated by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to represent the country in the Yonex Dutch Junior International and Yonex German Junior tournaments in Europe later this year.

Pertama FerroAlloys’ ongoing commitment continues to inspire Sarawak’s badminton youth, transforming local aspirations into global achievements.
