Pertama Ferroalloys’ 90 pct Sarawakian workforce proof of local capability
Bintulu, Sept 16: More than 90 per cent of the 732 employees at Pertama Ferroalloys Sdn Bhd are Sarawakian is a clear testament to the company’s confidence in local talent and their ability to drive economic growth in Sarawak.
In a TVS news report, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the Sarawak government welcomes the company’s strong commitment to prioritising local manpower in its operations at the Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP).
“I would like to thank the company for the trust given to the government and the confidence placed in our local workforce.
“Pertama Ferroalloys Deputy Chairman Yuki Nakamura informed me that our workers are highly committed, honest, easy to train, and their skills meet international standards,” he said after attending a briefing at the plant in SIP today.
Awang Tengah, who is also Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment, added that Pertama Ferroalloys is looking to increase the participation of women in its workforce, from the current 10 per cent to 30 per cent in the near future.
At the same time, he reminded all factory and industry operators in SIP to continuously strengthen workplace safety standards.
“Safety protocols must be further enhanced to prevent any untoward incidents. This includes risk management, safety training such as fire drills, and the establishment of safety-related committees,” he stressed. – DayakDaily
