Pertama Ferroalloys Sdn. Bhd. was established on 2nd December 2010 as the first large-scale manganese alloys and ferrosilicon plant in Malaysia. Formerly known as AML Manganese (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., the company was established by global ferroalloy production leaders to produce and supply manganese alloy products for the steel industry worldwide.
An investment costing USD300 million, the Pertama smelting plant occupies an area of 200 hectares in the Samalaju Industrial Park in Bintulu, Sarawak as a 2-phase manganese alloys and ferrosilicon smelting plant development. Phase 1 construction has started in Q2-2012 and is expected to start production in Q2-2015 and commercial operation in Q3-2015; Phase 2 is scheduled to begin operation in Q1-2016. The plant on full operation will employ up to 800 local and foreign employees at all levels.
The final products of the plant will be manganese alloys, ferrosilicon and electrolytic manganese metal (EMM).
The company enjoys the full support of the Malaysian Government under the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) government development initiative, one of the five regional development corridors being developed throughout Malaysia. It aims at achieving the goals of accelerating the State's economic growth and development, as well as improving the quality of life for the people of Sarawak.
