About Us

Pertama Ferroalloys Sdn. Bhd. (Formerly known as AML Manganese (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.) (“Pertama”) was named by the Chief Minister of the Sarawak State of Malaysia, meaning the FIRST manganese ferroalloy smelting plant in Malaysia. The plant will occupy around 200 hectares of land in the Samalaju Industrial Park in Bintulu of the Sarawak State.

The Pertama project is a two-phase manganese alloys and ferrosilicon smelting plant development:

Phase 1: Construction of the plant had commenced in May 2012 and production is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2013. It is also expected that full commercial production will be reached by the fourth quarter of 2014.

Phase 2: Commencement of operation to be expected in the second quarter of 2015.

To secure the supply of low cost power supply for the plant, Pertama had signed a long term Power Purchase Agreement with Syarikat Sesco Berhad in early 2012.

The final products of the plant will be manganese alloys, ferrosilicon and electrolytic manganese metal (EMM). These final products will be consumed locally as well as exported to countries worldwide.

Total estimated cost for phase 1 of the project would be around USD 300 million. Pertama will be jointly owned by Asia Minerals Limited and other reputable companies with strong track record in the manganese and steel industry. Asia Minerals Limited will be the majority shareholder of Pertama.
